What does it mean when Scripture speaks of ‘the evidence of our faith?’
1 John 4:10-13 says, “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.”
The photo on our home page with the palm trees obviously being blown by a strong wind, is symbolic of seeing the evidence of God without actually seeing Him … just as we cannot see the wind, we cannot see God.
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:6-7, “So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. We walk by faith, not by sight.”
Hebrews 11:1-3 says, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.”
Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Paul says in Ephesians 2:8-10, “For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith. And this is not of yourselves, but it is the gift of God.”
Since MWM’s baseline for identifying truth is Jesus … we encourage everyone to search the Scriptures and let them be the guide for identifying your baseline for truth.
For those who believe the Bible is true, and who put their trust and faith in Jesus to be forgiven of their sins … you should rejoice to the max here and now, as well as have a peace that surpasses all understanding because Jesus died on the cross for your sins.
