Why is the Bible such a big deal to Christians?
The simplest reason is because it reveals God to us! Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:14-17, “But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
Follower’s of Christ believe in what’s known as Sola scriptura. We believe that God’s Word is infallible … and that it is authoritative, complete, true, and available for anyone and everyone to understand and live by.
Hebrews 4:12-13 says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
Psalm 119:7-9 says, “The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.”
These are truly Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth! I am so grateful to the Lord for providing us with a guide book that has the power to literally transform our lives on this side of eternity!
The more we know His Word, the more familiar His voice will become to us. Proverbs 3:5-6 puts it beautifully, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
It’s one thing for God’s Word to reveal Himself to us through studying it, but it’s imperative that we do our part by putting our trust in Him with ALL our heart … and not leaning on our own understanding … and always submitting to His guidance and direction.
My sincere question to anyone who may be reading this post and has yet to put their faith and trust in Jesus … is, “Why not?” Do you need more evidence before believing? Are the professing Christians you know not very inspiring examples, and even seem like hypocrites? Do you think you’re too far gone, and if there is a God, there’s no way He could ever accept me into His family? Whatever may be holding you back from saying “Yes” to Jesus, please reach out as I would love the opportunity to hear your objections, and why you’ve chosen to seek truth from some other source.
